If you’ve never touched Canva before, we recommend visiting this Canva Design School and watching some video tutorials. Don’t worry; Canva is very user-friendly, and this won’t take long.

Get to know the Canva dashboard

Canva’s dashboard is simple and straightforward. The Canva dashboard is divided into 5 areas to make it easier to understand. Here’s the explanation.

• The red areas are the tools available in Canva. You can press on the three dots to find other tools. When you select an element or photo, a selection of photos and elements will appear on the side next to it. You can also type in the keywords you are looking for, as you can filter elements or photos such as only showing free or pro photos.
• The green area is the Canva artboard. This is where your design will take shape. You can place all the elements, photos and text that you use here to form a unified design.
• The blue areas are the menus used to organize or support the artboard. Here you can comment, zoom in on the artboard, and zoom out.
• The purple area is the menu used to adjust the appearance of each element. You can adjust the font, color, alignment, and effects here.
• The yellow area is the main menu used to set general artboard functions. You can change the artboard size, display margins, rulers, and guides. Most importantly, you can use the share button above to download your design file or share it with others.

Changing the background color in Canva

To change the background color, select it, and then the color swatch in the top left-hand corner will appear. You can change the color to any shade you want.

Note. To change the background color, you must either click on a plain area without an image or shadow. Occasionally, it can be hard to locate. Take your template and click around the edges to find the background layer.

How to add your own images on Canva

To add your own images and/or logo, follow these steps:

1. Go to the “Uploads” on the left panel and choose “Upload.”
2. Click “Upload Media” and then select the source channel.
3. Navigate to the image/video you want to upload.
4. Add your image to the template by dragging or clicking it.

How to change the font on Canva

To change text or font of the template, follow these steps:

1. Select the text you want to edit (double click if you want to change the text).
2. To access the Fonts library, click the drop-down in the toolbar.
3. To change the text color, or change the font format, you can find it on the top toolbar.

How to use color filter on Canva

To make the images you put in the template look harmonious, you can use lightroom presets or Canva’s color filters. To apply Canva’s color filters, follow these steps:

1. Select the image.
2. On the top bar, click on the ‘Filter’ and you can select the filter.

Downloading your template on Canva

1. Click the ‘Share’ button in the upper right corner to begin exporting your work. A dropdown will appear.
2. Select ‘Download’.
3. Pick the file type that you want.
4. To be able to choose which page to download, click the one you want in ‘Select Pages’.
5. Click ‘Download’ button.
